Woodenboats West is committed to constructing the highest quality low-maintenance wooden watercraft.  Officially launched in January 2007, Woodenboats West is the culmination of my 12 years as a boat-building hobbyist.  Grand Haven Michigan is a great place to be a boatbuilder.  We have numerous waterways, boat owners, and a history of boatbuilding. 

Woodenboats West builds a variety of boats, primarily focusing on Australian-turned-Scotsman Iain Oughtred’s lapstrake designs.  Specifically, I build 2 types of Prams, a Whitehall-type Skiff for row & sail, a traditional Dingy for row & sail, a 12’ Dinghy specifically for Sailing, and a Dory Skiff for row & sail.  The lines of Oughtred’s boat designs are beautiful, and the construction is traditional, yet  low-maintenance.  In addition to the Oughtred designs, I also make a 16’ Jonboat, a 12’ Wee Lassie cedar-strip canoe, and a 16' tandem Prospector canoe.  I will also build a wooden boat to your specifications.  Just send me the design and begin a dialogue.
