Born with the "boat gene", Tom Greenberg has spent most of his life on or around the water. At the age of 5 he was taken on his first fishing trip; nailing monster perch on Hubbard Lake, near Alpena, MI and catching bass and pike in Fletcher's Pond. By age 9 he was a veteran of numerous fishing trips to Ontario for bass, pike, and walleye. Growing up on an inland lake near Detroit, Tom used to beg to drive the family boat alone. Before he was allowed to take the boat out, his dad made him swim across the entire width of their lake (about 1/2 mile) to prove he could make it to shore in case of an accident. Passing the swimming test with flying colors, Tom was driving the boat solo at age 12.
After attending the University of Michigan, where he majored in History and Political Science, Tom spent 8 years in retail sales and management as a store and regional manager for national consumer electronics giant, Tech HiFi, where his stores consistently posted the highest per-capita revenue in the chain. Moving from the consumer electronics industry to the professional broadcast and recording market, Tom spent 12 years as General Manager of Hy James Inc., a national dealer of professional audio/video equipment.
Leaving equipment sales, Tom moved into the production side of the audio/video business. He co-founded Detroit's first all-digital audio/video post-production facility, Paradise Post Inc., in 1989. Specializing in work for feature films, corporate marketing and commercials, Tom developed Paradise Post into a strong presence in the Detroit post-production market. Extremely interested in computer graphics, he also founded Paradise Digital Media Group, Inc. in 1992, a dealer for high-end animation and graphics computer systems. Paradise DMG was highly successful, with offices in Detroit, Chicago and Minneapolis. At the same time, he was honing his own editing and graphics capabilities.
In 1995, he recognized a need in the Detroit market for an innovative video and multimedia production company and founded Braincell Pictures, Inc. Since then, Tom has brought his 25 years of management experience to the table as President of Braincell Pictures, and acting as Producer and Project Manager on numerous large projects. Tom has utilized his video editing and graphic design skills for a wide variety of clients, ranging from General Motors to the Detroit Institute of Arts. In the process, he has created everything from high-definition videowalls to PBS documentaries; non-profit fundraising programs, commercials, and high-energy corporate marketing pieces.
To merge his professional skills and his personal interests, Tom decided to focus on outdoors-oriented projects and clients. An avid boater, fisherman and skier, Tom relocated his family to West Michigan in 2005 to enjoy its great recreational environment. Coming late to Great Lakes salmon fishing, Tom has taken to it with a passion. Something about those screaming drags and powerful fish has captivated him, now he spends as much time as possible out on the big water chasing the big ones.
With long-time friend and business associate, Gregory Houtteman, Tom co-founded Experience Outdoors, LLC, a marketing and communications company dedicated to serving the marketing needs of outdoors-oriented retailers, manufacturers, service-providers and customers. He is now working to spend as much time as possible on the water, in the woods and on the slopes...with or without video camera in hand.
