Gregory A. Houtteman

ImageAfter starting a career in computing at the age of 15 as a System Administrator for Parda Federal Credit Union (Warner-Lambert's Employee CU with 80,000+ members), Greg chose to pursue an education in Computer Science at Eastern Michigan University (EMU).

He joined the U.S. Army in 1981 after winning a full military scholarship to pay for his education at EMU.  Stationed at Ft. Benning, GA he Imagewas a Drill Instructor for the 2nd Infantry Training Brigade, Harmony Church, combatives instructor for the 4 RTB (Ranger Training Battalion), and member of 70th Infantry Training Division (Army Reserves).

Greg's entrepreneurial adventures began with PMX, Inc. where he was a programmer developing Computer-aided Machining (CAM) software on the original PC prior to the release of DOS.  From there he joined Cimlinc, Inc designing flexible manufacturing software and broadband networking solutions supporting the initial OSI ISO 7-layer network model.  Leveraging his experience with Cimlinc he joined a start-up System Associates/Smarteye where he was a developer on the Smarteye Routing Controller (SRC) a real-time environment developed for factory control routing and tracking systems, where he was project-lead for many implementations including General Motors, Chrylser, Michelin, and Navistar.

Looking for a broader experience he left Smarteye to join Tektronix, Inc the Portalnd, OR based Fortune 500 electronics company where he was a member of the workstation, network display, and graphics printing and imaging groups.  He was a regional and national resource for sales and customer service and won the Tektronix Technical Excellence Award awarded to the top 10 engineers in the company.

While at Tektronix he was approached by NeTpower, Inc. a early-stage start-up to be a founding member of the team.  NeTpower developed high-performance RISC-based computer workstations and servers for the release of Microsoft Windows NT.  NeTpower was the primary system supplier for the NT development prior to Intel having a 32-bit microporcessor.  Greg served in both national and regional capacities helping to build the sales team and sales pipeline during its growth from the original 14 employees.  After the acquisition of NeTpower's technology by Intel he become General Manager of object-oriented database developer Postek where he lead the company into the custom software development market.

Recognizing the changes in the late 90's of internet-based digital media he was drawn to the emerging streaming video market.  Greg chose to take some time off and become a consultant exploring this emerging digital media market, where he was approached by TeleVideo Studios to develop their digital media business.  Serving as Vice President/Director of Digital Media he developed TeleVideo's internet broadcast, web services, and eLearning businesses which continue to be the core growth drivers for TeleVideo.  While at TeleVideo he began formulating the idea of a integrated media and business services company which became the model for Experience Outdoors.

An avid fisherman, boater, and professional ski instructor Greg has built Experience Outdoors to be the premiere outdoor, adventure, and sports development company.  Applying his 20+ years of professional and executive experience he has built a company that can help outdoor-related businesses maximize and realize their potential.
