Pete Bosheff

ImageBeginning his working career in the family business at six years old, Pete Bosheff had full responsibilities by the time he was 12.  While attending college (and still working in the family business) he was employed as a veterinary technician, worked for City of Lansing Parks and Recreation,  did construction work and started several businesses. At Lansing Community College he became a Certified Dialysis Technician, gained his Emergency Medical Technician certification and continued studies in physiology with a business minor. Pete also watched his family’s very successful 50-year business fail, which gives him unique perspective and a preventive approach to his work and all challenges.

As a youth, Pete developed a passion for the outdoors.  Fishing, boating, equestrian, skiing, and other outdoor activities were extremely important to him.  After moving to Portland, Oregon in the early 80s, Pete took time to fully explore the mountains, streams, whitewater, and backcountry throughout the Pacific Northwest. He made it a priority to continue his active lifestyle during a demanding career. Pete’s corporate experience began with CD Medical Drake Willock in Portland, Oregon (division of Merrill Dow Pharmaceuticals and the Dow Chemical Company). Realizing that a wealth of information and opportunities existed within the FDA mandated complaint and incident investigation data, Pete worked with management to develop methodology to enhance existing field experience reporting. The objective was to provide primary data to marketing and R&D. As a result of this data-gathering process, Pete was directly responsible for “saving” several large hospital and clinic accounts representing millions of dollars of revenue per year including a $12 million dollar account in NYC with a single phone call.

As a regulatory consultant, Pete has worked with several medical device and aviation manufacturers. Other work includes business consulting, business makeovers with a strong emphasis on taking on tough challenges and solving impossible problems.

Pete did marketing and product development work for a whitewater river boat company (Ray’s River Dories Portland, OR), and had key roles in several publications with memberships in a variety of professional and outdoor organizations. Strategic marketing and advertising with high impact results is a forte. Pete has done consulting work for the mountain sports industry and several active/action sports retailers and manufacturers.

At the tiller at an early age
Pete believes a well-rounded professional is one who gives back to his/her community by direct participation, citizen initiatives and volunteerism. He was involved in numerous projects and initiatives in Oregon and Washington State...most with high impact, positive results. Since returning to Michigan in 1995, his personal interest has been specific to lifestyle and livability enhancements, with a focus on youth.

Pete has developed and continues to refine proprietary, innovative public involvement methodology linking business, academia and government with citizen groups and individuals. This process is critical to building constituency for project success.

As an example, after forming the Lansing Area Skate, Bike and Recreation Foundation (LASBRF, a 501(c)3 entity), the group secured pledges and donations of materials, services and cash to build the Ranney Skatepark in Lansing, MI. They did all the marketing, strategic planning work identifying opportunities and failure modes for a multiuse facility on parkland. The goal was to create a dynamic partnership with local and regional government and administrators. Most importantly, the group set a high quality bar for the project, insisting that X-Games ramp builders, Team Pain, design and build the park. The Ranney project put the group in high demand for skatepark project consulting. As a result, Pete formed Skatepark Resource, LLC providing advice and consultation to cities and private sector groups specific to action sports facilities.

ImageThe original group is now focused on youth sports, cycling and active lifestyle projects, girls’ and women’s’ sports that lead to college scholarships and producing action, fun events for communities. Furthermore, LASBRF has affiliated with MSU Project FISH and national organizations like HOFNOD (Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs) to drive outdoor, “off the couch” activities based in fishing, hiking and boating.  They also spearheaded a Salmon in the Classroom project at Lansing's Gardner Middle School.  Under Pete’s leadership LASBRF produces the highly successful Common Crit, a Criterium Pro-Am Bicycle Race in conjunction with Lansing’s Common Ground Festival and have driven other events peripheral to the festival including Women’s fast-pitch Softball, and assisting Modern Skate and Surf’s MASKS (Michigan Amateur Skate Kontest Series) skateboard and in-line skate qualifier for the national Van’s Warped Tour.

Pete brings his great enthusiasm for the outdoors and a passion for helping others to all Experience Outdoors projects.
